Single-character wooden tiles stacked 2–4 layers deep; covered tiles cannot be tapped. The hint box shows the dictionary definition of one of this level’s idioms (Ministry of Education text, verbatim); the child finds its 4 characters and taps them in order into the tray below. Spell the idiom and those 4 tiles vanish, uncovering the ones beneath; tap a tile in the tray to put it back. Each correct idiom opens an idiom card: the whole idiom large with zhuyin, read aloud with a Chinese voice, then the explanation — definition, example sentences, “easily confused” note and source — so it sticks. The idioms follow a grade 3–6 school list (366 idioms), 4 per level from one grade, 279 levels in three rounds: 🌱 zhuyin on every tile, no decoys; 🌿 zhuyin only on tray tiles, 1–2 unused extra characters; 🌳 4 layers and 3–4 wrong-character decoys (tapping one shows the dictionary’s own note). No shuffle, no timer; piles are generated so no order of clearing can get stuck. Press “Show me” when stuck and the next tile glows; tap Dino for a three-step lesson.

🌱 第 1–93 關:每張牌都有注音、提示框有釋義+這條的注音、疊 2 層、沒有干擾牌;
🌿 第 94–186 關:只有放進組合欄的牌顯示注音、只有釋義、疊 3 層、多 1–2 張用不到的字;
- Goal:the pile hides this level’s 4 idioms (16 single-character wooden tiles stacked 2–4 layers deep). The box above gives the dictionary definition of one of them; find its 4 characters and tap them in order into the 4 slots below. When the slots spell an idiom, those 4 tiles vanish and the tiles under them show. Clear all 4 to finish the level.
- Which tiles can be tapped:only light-wood tiles with nothing on top of them; dark tiles are covered and only appear once the idiom above them is cleared (just “covered or not” — no mahjong left-right rule). Put a tile back by tapping it in the tray; that does not count as a move.
- When the 4 slots are full:a correct idiom → the tiles vanish, Dino walks 4 steps home and the idiom card opens; wrong → the tray shakes and the 4 tiles fly back, no penalty, just one “wrong try”. In 🌱 Beginner levels the right 4 characters in the wrong order still count (they are sorted first); 🌿🌳 need the order too. If a wrong-character tile sneaked in (e.g. 賞 next to 如願以償), Dino shows the dictionary’s own “easily confused” note.
- The idiom card (so it sticks):after a correct idiom the pile pauses, the whole idiom is shown large with zhuyin beside each character and read aloud with a Chinese voice (🔊 to hear it again). Below is the explanation: the Ministry of Education dictionary definition verbatim, all example sentences (where the Idiom Dictionary has them), the “easily confused” note (if any) and the source on the last line. Open by default in 🌱, collapsed in 🌿🌳 (tap “📖 Explanation”). Tap “▶ Continue” to go back to the pile.
- 279 levels, three rounds:the idioms follow the grade 3–6 “Idiom Master” list of Chenggong Elementary (366 idioms, 5 dropped because no dictionary has them), 4 per level, one grade per level. Each round has 93 levels (grade 3: 25, grade 4: 24, grade 5: 21, grade 6: 23); the same set of idioms comes back in every round, harder each time:
🌱 levels 1–93: zhuyin on every tile, definition plus the idiom’s zhuyin in the hint box, 2 layers, no decoys;
🌿 levels 94–186: zhuyin only on tiles in the tray, definition only, 3 layers, 1–2 extra unused characters;
🌳 levels 187–279: like 🌿 but up to 4 layers and 3–4 wrong-character decoys (look-alikes and the dictionary’s “do not write as” characters). Parents can turn on “ㄅ Zhuyin” in the settings row to show zhuyin on 🌿🌳 tiles too.
- Dino the coach:Dino stays quiet during play. Tap him for the lesson — three steps with the idioms of level 1 (one idiom fully uncovered → two idioms, the second one covered → one wrong-character tile added).
- Stuck? (🖐 Show me):one press makes the next tile to tap glow with a little hand (if the tray is wrong, it points at the tile to take back first) and switches the hint box to that idiom. “Show me” is locked at the start of every level and opens only after you have really tried; the little hands are shared across the garden (3, one grows back every day, finishing a level on your own earns one).
- The way home:under the board, Dino stands on the stone that shows how many moves are left: each cleared idiom is 4 steps closer (tiles placed in the tray do not count — that would give the answer away one tile at a time). Finishing in the minimum 16 moves is “Perfect”. In the first 3 🌱 levels (or after “Show me”) the next tile to tap glows softly. No shuffle, no move limit, no timer; the piles are generated so that no order of clearing can get stuck.
- Listen:a correct idiom is read aloud with a Chinese voice; 🔊 in the hint box and on the card reads the definition (it is long, so never automatically); after the level the 4 idioms are listed and tapping one reads it (the device’s Chinese voice, even when the page is in English).
- Settings:level, sound, voice and “ㄅ Zhuyin” are tucked away; tap the 🌼 above the game to open them. “Level N ▾” opens the level picker: three sections 🌱🌿🌳, four chapters each (grades 3–6), solved levels get a ⭐, and each section shows how many levels per grade are done. “🔄 Restart level” puts the pile back; moves and time keep counting.
- For parents:the game screen deliberately has no text for children to read (they follow pictures, animation and sound) — the explanations are here. The zhuyin, definitions, example sentences and “easily confused” notes are the verbatim text of the Ministry of Education’s Dictionary of Chinese Idioms, Concise Mandarin Chinese Dictionary and Revised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary (CC BY-ND 3.0 TW, data version 2026-09-29), not changed by a single character, and every card names its source on the last line. The idiom list and grade order follow the school’s “Idiom Master” list; the school’s own explanations and sentences are not used. Five idioms spelled differently from the dictionaries were changed to the dictionary spelling and five that no dictionary has were left out. Only the dictionary text and the list order follow the sources; the gameplay, Dino’s lines and the buttons are ours.
