An indie developer's honest App Store submission diary
AIPrentice is an iOS/iPadOS app where kids teach an AI, built solo from scratch. This page documents every milestone in the Apple App Store submission process — the anticipation, the waiting, and the outcome. Shared for fellow indie developers on the same path.
2026 · 07 · 05🚀 First Submission
With the core loop (hatch → teach-by-drawing → quiz → evolve) complete and all unit tests green, AIPrentice v1.0.20260705 (Build 2) was uploaded to Apple and submitted for its first App Store review. Build 1 from earlier that day was scrapped (missing PrivacyInfo, old parental gate); Build 2 was re-archived that night with the family's shared multiplication gate, programmatically synthesized sound + pet voice, the recognizer upgraded to feature v3, and a complete PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy (zero collection, zero tracking).

2026 · 07 · 09🔴 Reject #1 · Info Needed
After 4 days, Apple marked v1.0.20260704 (Build 1) as Rejected on the evening of July 9. This wasn't a functional rejection but Guideline 2.1 - Information Needed: as a kids' app under Guideline 1.3 (Kids Category), the reviewer needed clarity on data handling and asked for written answers to four privacy questions before proceeding.
The four questions Apple asked:
Does the app include third-party analytics? If so, what data is collected?
Does the app include third-party advertising? If so, provide a link to the ad network's kids-app policies.
Will data be shared with any third parties? If so, for what purpose and where is it stored?
Is any user or device data collected beyond third-party analytics/advertising? If so, explain all planned uses.
The good news — AIPrentice is 100% offline, zero-collection, zero-tracking, with no third-party SDKs and no ads, and PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy was already set to "Data Not Collected." The answer to all four questions is "No"; replying honestly in App Store Connect is enough — no code changes needed.

After answering the four privacy questions honestly in App Store Connect (all "No" — zero collection, zero tracking, no third-party SDKs), Apple cleared it the next day. On the early morning of July 11 the "Congratulations!" email arrived: review complete, eligible for distribution. Less than 2 days from the first rejection to approval, without changing a single line of code — just an honest explanation. AIPrentice is live on the App Store!
