What PlayGoKids is

PlayGoKids (Go Kids: Weiqi & Capture) is a Go (Weiqi) learning game for children on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Coach Mochi the orange cat helps kids learn, with readable green / red / ⚠ hints so children can see every move. It starts with Capture Go — capture a stone and you win — then progresses through territory play up to a real match against the KataGo neural net. It is completely free, ad-free, collects no data, and works fully offline.

Requirements

iOS 26 / iPadOS 26 / macOS 14 or later. The same app runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
No account or login required. No internet connection needed.
No microphone, camera, photos, location, or notification permissions are requested.

Common questions

Is PlayGoKids really free? Are there ads or in-app purchases?

Yes — the initial release is 100% free with every feature unlocked, no ads, and no in-app purchases.

How do I open the Parental Center? What is the parental gate?

The Parental Center and any setting that could leave the app (such as exporting statistics) sit behind a parental gate. There is no fixed password by design — the gate shows an adult-level multiplication question with three answers; tap the correct one to continue. This keeps children from leaving the app or changing limits without an adult.

There's no sound / the voice is silent.

Check that your device volume is turned up and not muted, and that the silent switch (iPhone/iPad) is off — PlayGoKids respects the physical silent switch. In the app, open Settings and make sure voice/sound is enabled. All audio plays on-device, so no internet is needed.

How do I switch between Chinese and English?

Open Settings → Language and choose English, 中文, or Follow System. Text and voice both switch together.

My child finds the games too hard / too easy.

There are three modes. Choose Beginner for Capture Go with guidance (capture a stone to win), Improve to learn territory, or Advanced for a real match against the KataGo neural net. Visual hints (green / red / orange / blue star) help at every level.

What is the KataGo opponent on Mac? Does it need anything?

The advanced engine runs on-device (CoreML) and needs nothing extra. On Mac it can optionally use a KataGo engine you have already installed yourself; the app never bundles or downloads an executable, and if it's absent or fails, it automatically falls back to the built-in engine.

How is my child's data handled?

All games, statistics, and settings are stored on the device only and never uploaded. PlayGoKids collects no data at all. See our Privacy Policy.

系統需求

常見問題

圍棋小學堂真的免費嗎？有廣告或內購嗎？

是的——首發版本 100% 免費、所有功能全開、沒有廣告、也沒有任何 App 內購買。

如何進入家長中心？家長閘是什麼？

家長中心以及任何可能離開 App 的設定（例如匯出統計）都受家長閘保護。家長閘刻意不設固定密碼——畫面會出一道大人級的乘法題、三個選項，按下正確答案才能進入，確保孩子無法在沒有大人的情況下離開 App 或更改限制。

沒有聲音 / 語音不會響。

請確認裝置音量已調高、未靜音，iPhone/iPad 的靜音開關已關閉（圍棋小學堂尊重實體靜音鍵）。並在 App 的「設定」中確認語音／音效已開啟。所有聲音都在裝置本機播放，不需要網路。

如何切換中文 / 英文？

進入「設定 → 語言」，可選 English、中文或跟隨系統。文字與語音會一起切換。

孩子覺得太難 / 太簡單。

共有三種模式：初學為吃子棋＋提示指導（先吃到對方就贏）、中階學圍地、進階挑戰 KataGo 神經網路真戰。各階段都有綠／紅／橘／藍星視覺提示輔助。

Mac 上的 KataGo 對手是什麼？需要另外安裝嗎？

進階引擎在裝置端（CoreML）運算，不需額外安裝。在 Mac 上可選擇使用「你自己已安裝」的 KataGo；App 不會內建或下載任何執行檔，若不存在或失敗會自動改用內建引擎。

孩子的資料怎麼處理？

所有對局、統計與設定只存在裝置本機，不會上傳。圍棋小學堂完全不收集任何資料。詳見隱私權政策。
