What AIPrentice does
AIPrentice is an educational app for kids (ages 6–8, Made for Kids) where the child teaches a little AI pet instead of being taught by one. The child hatches an apprentice that knows nothing, teaches it by drawing labeled examples, then quizzes it. The AI is a tiny on-device classifier — it can only recognize what the child has taught it. There is no chatbot, no generated content, and no internet connection.
Requirements
- iOS 17 / iPadOS 17 or later (iPhone and iPad; iPad with Apple Pencil is the nicest way to draw, but fingers work fine).
- No account, no login, no internet required. The app is fully functional offline.
- No permissions are requested — no camera, no microphone, no location.
Common questions
Why does it keep guessing wrong?
That's part of the lesson! It usually means: (1) too few examples — teach at least 5 drawings per thing; (2) two things are drawn too similarly — its second guess on the mistake screen will tell you which; or (3) the quiz drawing looks very different from the taught ones. Open the Memory Backpack to see exactly what it remembers, and add clearer examples. Watching it improve after better teaching is the whole point.
It only ever answers one thing.
If it has only been taught one kind of thing, it will answer that for everything — it can only choose among what it knows. Teach it a second kind and quizzes become meaningful. (The app shows a hint about this too.)
Where is my child's data stored?
Everything — drawings, the pet's name, stats — is stored only on your device, inside the app's private storage. The app contains no networking code, so nothing can be uploaded. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I reset and start over?
Settings → Parents (answer the grown-ups math question) → "Start over". This erases all teaching examples and hatches a fresh egg. Deleting the app also removes all data.
My pet devolved after deleting memories — is that a bug?
No — it's intentional. The pet's stage is computed from its training data. Take memories away and it really does get less capable, which is exactly how real AI works: the model is the data.

AI小徒弟是什麼
AI小徒弟是給 6–8 歲孩子的教育 app（Made for Kids）：不是 AI 教小孩，而是小孩教 AI。孩子孵出一隻什麼都不會的小徒弟，畫圖標名字教牠認東西，再考考牠。這個 AI 是裝置上的小型分類器——牠只認得孩子教過的東西。沒有聊天機器人、沒有生成內容、不需要網路。
系統需求

常見問題
牠為什麼一直猜錯？
這正是課程的一部分！通常是：(1) 範例太少——每種東西至少畫 5 張；(2) 兩種東西畫得太像——答錯畫面會告訴你牠第二個想到的是什麼；(3) 考試畫的跟教的差太多。打開「記憶背包」看看牠到底記得什麼，再補幾張更清楚的教材。看牠因為教得更好而進步，就是這個 app 的重點。
牠不管看到什麼都回同一個答案。
如果只教過一種東西，牠就只能回答那一種——牠只能從學過的東西裡選。教牠第二種，考試才有意義（app 裡也會提示）。
小孩的資料存在哪裡？
所有東西——畫作、寵物名字、統計——都只存在你的裝置上，位於 app 的私有儲存空間。App 沒有任何網路程式碼，物理上不可能上傳。詳見隱私政策。
怎麼重置重新開始？
設定 → 家長專區（回答大人才會的算術題）→「整隻重來」。會清空所有教材並重新孵蛋。刪除 app 也會移除所有資料。
刪了記憶之後寵物退化了——這是 bug 嗎？
不是，是故意的。寵物的階段由訓練資料決定：拿走記憶，牠的能力真的會變差——這正是真實 AI 的運作方式：模型就是資料。
