LetPod is a sound studio for children: record your own voice, keep sounds, reuse them and make little audio shows (the earliest builds were a grandparent relay recorder, which is now a secondary Record Together mode). This log starts at the first packaged build; every step after it — submission, rejections, launch — gets added here as it happens, for anyone walking the same road.

From project spec to a build that passes Apple's checks, inside a single day. Archive 1.0.20260905 (1) at 11:30 PM; five minutes later build (2) cleared Xcode's Validate App with App validation complete — packaging, signing, Info.plist, privacy manifest and icon all pass Apple's automated checks, so it is ready for upload and submission.

1. What shipped that same day
The relay state machine, four task-card packs, 30-second turns with automatic playback, six mascot poses and the child-voice guidance, three canned sound effects, on-device mixing (trim / balance / mix), a 20-episode shelf with a 7-day recycle bin, and sharing plus the family shelf behind the parental gate — all wired together, with a full episode recorded end to end on the iPad simulator (a 33.4-second m4a).
2. The bug only a real run could find
Restoring the audio session after recording is background work; if playback jumps in first, it hangs — and the "have a listen" button stays greyed out forever. The fix: wait until the session has actually left record-and-play mode before starting playback, plus a playback watchdog based on the file's own duration. No unit test finds this; you have to record a whole episode.
3. What still stands between here and submission
Finalising the 20 Taiwanese words, on-device microphone-distance testing (Grandma half a metre away, the child shouting into it), App Store screenshots — and three real family recording sessions: only if the child asks to do it again on the second one is it worth submitting. The privacy policy and support pages are already live, since Apple's submission form requires both.

1.0.20260905 (2) went to review on Sep 6. On Sep 7 came the Kids Category privacy questions (not a rejection — a written answer was enough), and on Sep 9 the real rejection: Guideline 4.3 Spam. Apple considered it too similar in “binary, metadata and concept” to other apps on the same account, without naming which one.
First, explain
The first response was a point-by-point explanation: one developer account, no third-party template, and the relay recording found in no other app — plus a request to say which app it was compared with. Looking back at the submitted screenshots revealed the real trigger: not a single one showed the grandparent relay, while six showed the parents area that looks identical across the whole family of apps.

After the reply, the same build was resubmitted, and on Sep 16 the same template arrived under 4.3(a): “Don’t create multiple Bundle IDs of the same app” — Apple was treating it as a variant of one of the studio’s own apps. The likeliest match was LetDrum: another Let-something, with a parent-child relay, a sticker book and the same parents area.
Change the surface: screenshots and copy
No more letters. Instead, visible changes: screenshots reshot around the relay story (no parents area), the family boilerplate cut from the copy, and the Review Notes opening with a direct answer to 4.3(a). Not a line of code changed; build 3 (1.0.20260917) went back in at 11:59 PM on Sep 18.
A day later came a third 4.3(a), with an added warning: repeated submissions extend review, and accounts with repeated violations may be removed from the Developer Program. Taken together the pattern was plain — it was the same app every time, only with new screenshots and copy.
This time, change the app
LetPod was rebuilt from a grandparent relay recorder into a child’s sound studio: record your own voice, keep and reuse sounds in My Sounds, arrange them into shows, then edit and remake them; the relay became a secondary Record Together mode. Version 1.0 dropped the tip jar and the family app shelf. A stop-loss was set too: this would be the listing’s last submission, and if it were rejected again, the features would move into an app already on the store.
2026 · 09 · 30📮 Fourth submission · My Sound Studio
1.0.20260930 (4) was the first build with real code changes, and the name, screenshots (all 28 replaced with the sound studio) and copy changed with it. It was submitted through the API at 1:26 AM on Sep 30 with a single item in the basket — no in-app purchases, no family app shelf.
Sixteen days of waiting
Other apps on the same account, submitted after it, were all reviewed within a day, while this one stayed in Waiting for Review — most likely the three 4.3 rejections had put it in a slower lane. It was deliberately not withdrawn and resubmitted: that sends it to the back of the queue, and repeated resubmissions look even more like spam after a 4.3. Meanwhile the product page, support page and homepage card, which still described the “grandparent relay podcast”, were rewritten for the sound studio — a reviewer checking 4.3 looks at those too.

At 7:24 AM on Oct 16 Apple’s email arrived: review complete, eligible for distribution, and released automatically: LetPod: My Sound Studio. About 16 days after submission, all of it spent in the queue; the review itself raised no questions and asked for nothing.
Approved on the fourth submission. The first three were the same app with new screenshots and copy, and all three were 4.3(a); this time the code, name, screenshots and copy all changed. The lesson: when an app is judged too similar to your own others, explaining and repackaging don’t help — the app itself has to change.
