What Dict Island does
Dict Island is a two-way English–Chinese dictionary and vocabulary-learning app for iPhone and iPad, made for kids. Type Chinese or English and it auto-detects the language, gives instant suggestions, and shows IPA, US/UK pronunciation, meanings, and exam tags. Kids then practice on the "Growth Sea" islands with four modes — Learn, Quiz, spaced Review (SRS), and Dictation — plus speaking practice with a recognition-match score.
Requirements
- iOS 17 / iPadOS 17 or later.
- Microphone permission is needed for pronunciation practice (optional).
- Camera / Photos permission is needed only if a parent imports a word list (optional).
- No account or login required. Works fully offline.
Common questions
There's no sound when I tap a word.
Pronunciation uses the system speech voices. Check that the device volume is up and the silent switch is off. On some devices you can add more English voices in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
A word I searched isn't in the dictionary.
The built-in dictionary focuses on common and exam-range words. Rare or very new words may not be included, but you can still add them via a custom word set (photo/PDF import behind the Parental Gate) and hear them read aloud.
How do I import a school word list?
Open Settings, pass the Parental Gate, and choose to import. Take a photo or pick a PDF; the app recognizes the text on-device, you proofread it, and it becomes the child's own word set. Images are not uploaded.
Where are recordings and data stored?
Everything stays on your device. Recordings, wordbook, progress, and custom sets are local only and never uploaded. To remove everything, uninstall the app.

系統需求
- iOS 17 / iPadOS 17 以上。
- 發音練習需要麥克風權限（非必要）。
- 匯入單字表才需要相機／相片權限（非必要）。
- 不需要帳號或登入，全程離線可用。
常見問題
點單字沒有聲音。
發音使用系統語音。請確認裝置音量已調高、靜音開關沒有打開。部分裝置可在 設定 → 輔助使用 → 朗讀內容 → 語音 加裝更多英文語音。
查的字不在字典裡。
內建字典以常用字與考試範圍為主，罕用或很新的字可能未收錄。你仍可透過自訂字表（家長閘後拍照／PDF 匯入）加入該字並聽發音。
如何匯入學校單字表？
進入設定、通過家長閘後選擇匯入。拍照或選 PDF，App 在裝置內辨識文字，你校對後即成為孩子的專屬字表。影像不會上傳。
錄音和資料存在哪裡？
全部只存在你的裝置本機。錄音、生字簿、進度與自訂字表都不會上傳。要全部移除，從裝置解除安裝 App 即可。
