LetPod collects no personal data. There are no servers operated by us, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no account or login — and the app runs fully offline. This App is fully compliant with Apple's "Made for Kids" guidelines and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not collect any personally identifiable information from users, including children under the age of 13.
The microphone, in plain words
LetPod is an app for recording a short "podcast" episode together with a grandparent or family member, so the microphone is central to it. Here is exactly what happens:
- Audio is recorded only while a turn is active — someone taps to start, taps to stop, and a turn ends automatically after 30 seconds.
- Recordings are written only to the app's own storage on this device. They are never uploaded, never sent to any server, and never analyzed by any cloud service.
- There is no speech recognition of any kind. The app does not transcribe, score, or interpret what anyone says.
- All editing — trimming silence, balancing volume, mixing in the built-in sound effects — happens on the device.
- The only way a recording can leave the device is a grown-up sharing a finished episode through the standard iOS share sheet from the grown-ups' area, which sits behind a parental gate.
- If microphone permission is declined, the app cannot record — that is its whole purpose — but nothing else about your device is accessed.
What the app stores, and where
- Recordings and finished episodes are stored on your device only, inside the app's own storage.
- Settings (language, mascot voice on/off, first-launch build) are stored on your device only, using Apple's UserDefaults.
- Nothing is linked to an identity: there is no account, no profile you register, and no identifier of any kind.
What we do NOT collect
- No name, email address, age, photo, or any personal identifier — the app never asks for them
- No location data
- No audio sent anywhere (recordings stay on the device — see above)
- No camera or photo library access; the app requests neither
- No usage analytics or crash reporting sent to us
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA); we do not use App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
- No third-party SDKs that collect data
Apple's App Privacy label
In App Store Connect, LetPod is declared as Data Not Collected, and Tracking is set to No. That declaration matches exactly what this page describes: no data of any kind is gathered, and the app never tracks users across other apps or websites.
Children's privacy (COPPA / GDPR-K)
LetPod is designed for children to use together with a grown-up. Because we collect no data at all, the app complies with COPPA (US) and GDPR-K (EU) by design. No information about child users is ever collected, stored outside the device, or shared.
No user-generated content in the App Store sense
Episodes recorded in LetPod are private files on your own device. There is no in-app publishing, no feed, no community, no comments, and no way for any other user to reach a child's recording. Sharing is a deliberate action taken by a grown-up, through Apple's own share sheet, to a destination that grown-up chooses.
Permissions
LetPod requests only one permission, and only when the first recording turn begins: the microphone. It does not request camera, photo library, speech recognition, location, contacts, notifications, or Bluetooth access.
The mascot's voice
Bite, the microphone mascot, speaks using Apple's on-device system speech synthesis (AVSpeechSynthesizer). No voice data is downloaded, uploaded, or transmitted, and nothing anyone says is sent to a speech service.
Third-party services
LetPod uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services, and makes no network connections at all.
Ad-free experience
To ensure a safe environment for children, this App is 100% ad-free. We do not display any third-party advertisements or use any ad-tracking mechanisms.
Outbound links & parental gate
Every external link and every purchase entry point sits behind a parental gate — a multiplication question that children cannot pass by guessing, which a grown-up may optionally switch to a 4-digit passcode. Sharing, storage management, the recycle bin, the tip jar and the family app shelf are all on the other side of that gate.
Our other apps
Behind the same gate, the grown-ups' area shows a shelf of our own child-friendly apps. If one is already installed, the shelf opens it directly; if it is not, the shelf shows its App Store page using Apple's own in-app product sheet. This shelf lists only apps made by us — there is no third-party advertising, cross-promotion network, tracking, or external web content.
Purchases
LetPod is free. The only in-app purchases are three optional tips ("buy the developer a coffee") shown only inside the grown-ups' area behind the parental gate. They are handled entirely by Apple's payment system — we never see or receive your payment details — and they unlock nothing. They are never shown or mentioned anywhere in the child's part of the app.
Data deletion
All app data is stored locally on your device. A child can move an episode to the recycle bin, from which a grown-up can restore it for 7 days before it is permanently removed. To delete everything at once, simply uninstall the app — every recording goes with it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. Significant changes will be noted in the App Store release notes.
